Welcome back to the “Dressing for your Body Shape” series! If you missed the intro post, you can view it here to get a general idea of the different body shapes and what yours may be. If you happen to have a pear shape, here is where we discussed what works best for your shape.  Most of us, when deciding what to wear, make several considerations including the weather, our mood, and the activities of the day. When considering your body shape, it is very important to plan your look based on the feature that you want to accentuate.

I will spend the next few weeks giving in-depth advice on how to look chic no matter your measurements. If you still have questions about your body shape or how to dress it, don’t hesitate to reach out to get advice from an expert—free of charge!

Today’s post is about the apple shape. Anybody else hearing Nelly’s Apple Bottom song? As a reminder, if you have an apple shape the top half of your body is bigger than the bottom half. Your chest and waist measurements will measure very closely with about a 6 inch decrease in the width of your hips. Examples of celebrities with this body shape include Amy Schumer, Drew Barrymore, and Jennifer Hudson.

Dressing the Apple Body Shape

To look your best, highlight your body at its narrowest point which is typically just below the bustline and highlights your legs, arms and shoulders. Here’s our list of the Top 5 ways to dress your body fabulously. What to Avoid

Again, dressing for your body shape is all about balance. For the apple body shape you will want to avoid simply covering your body with loose clothes. Steer clear of shapeless garments and puffy jackets and coats. High necklines will also take away from your look and be sure your fabric is not clingy. Choose a good mix of color or texture over solids for your looks.

Medical Moment: Keep in mind that your body shape is determined based on both genetics and environment. Your bone structure plays a large part in your figure as well as diet and exercise. You will find success in planning looks that find balance in your current shape—even if it’s not necessarily the one that you desire.
